Why Do I Have Roof Wind Damage?

Lately, we have talked about wind damage in your roof. Although we don’t see a lot of tornadoes or hurricanes come through our area, we do see strong wind storms. There isn’t a lot that can be done to prevent wind damage but an annual roofing inspection can discover those weak areas in your roofing system that may be susceptible to wind damage. Here are some tips to identify wind damage:

Spotting Wind Damage

Sometimes spotting wind damage is as easy as walking in your yard and picking up a shingle that’s blown off the roof. Other times it takes evaluating your roof. The easiest, and safest, way is to use binoculars and look at your roof from the ground. If you see misaligned or missing shingle that is a sign of wind damage.

Why Do I Have Wind Damage?

You expect your roof to last for at least two decades yet you have roof damage just a few years after your new roof was installed and wonder why. Although even the strongest, properly installed shingle can’t stand up to all wind events, most withstand winds up to 100mph. The most common reason for wind damage to a recent roof replacement is improper affixation of the shingles.

If you suspect you have wind damage to your roof or need any type of roof repair, don’t delay in calling us. Roof damage doesn’t get better with time, it only gets worse and more expensive.
